Pete Rose 360B (Warhol)
Hand-painted collectible baseball card
The first 7 cards in the 1986 Topps set are dedicated to Pete Rose, after passing Ty Cobb as baseball's all-time hits leader. Cards #2-7 chronicle Charlie Hustle's colorful baseball card history in a set entitled "The Pete Rose Years."
In 1985, Cincinnati art collector Carl Solway was listening to a Reds game in the car, while broadcaster Joe Nuxhall discussed Rose's pace to break Cobb’s record. Solway thought “It would be so cool if the art community could do something about that, instead of just the jocks and the sports people.”
Solway brought together the Cincinnati Art Museum and Warhol’s agent... and a commission for $100,000 was agreed upon. Comically, the only question Andy had was, "Who is Pete Rose?"
Each differently colored 1/1 card is created using a combination of my bubble gum-textured paint and vinyl... with a matching card holder. While Andy preferred screen printing, I create my art with vinyl.
About my collector cards
After purchasing some old wax packs to study the size and texture of gum sticks, I developed my own paint techniques in order to replicate it. Now, I hand-paint bubble gum directly onto vintage baseball cards to create small collectibles.
Here's what you'll receive with this order
- My original hand-painted gum onto a baseball card.
- Each collector card is paint-marked with it's edition number.
- These art cards are protected inside an Ultra Pro One Touch magnetic card holder... customized with my matching Rosen signature label.
- I do not sign these cards by request. However, your package will include bonus items personally autographed by me.
