T206 Honus Wagner - PSA EX 5 MC
Made-to-order baseball card art
This 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner tobacco card (EX 5 MC), sold for a record-breaking $3,120,000 at a Goldin Auction in 2016. I view the PSA graded label as a more interesting piece of pop art than the card itself! This print design mimics the label, and it's unique barcode.
The grading industry grew out of the card boom in the 1980's. While it is rare to find vintage Topps cards from 50's, or T206 tobacco cards... the most popular cards from the junk wax era could have millions in circulation. The only way to elevate the value of these cards was to create a perceived rarity. So, they began to grade them. While millions of '89 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. cards could be out there... how many of them are a perfect Mint 10?
How this acrylic print is made
I wanted to offer some budget-friendly wall art to fans of my work. So, I’ve partnered with Gooten to create high-quality prints on-demand. Gooten is named in honor of Johannes Gutenberg, creator of the first printing press, and the digital prints they produce are excellent… meeting my high standards. I’ve chosen to have my artwork produced on acrylic to compliment my plexiglass paintings.
- The designs are printed on high resolution archival paper with archival inks.
- Each print is fused onto the back side of the acrylic pane for a modern, frameless look.
- A french cleat box is mounted on the back for wall hanging.
- All pieces are original designs by yours truly, Matthew Lee Rosen.
- Orders will be shipped directly from Gooten.
