Handmade labels on recycled vinyl

In 1989, Upper Deck arrived as a premium brand with foil-wrapped packs, high-gloss white card stock and holographics. They chose 19-year old Ken Griffey Jr. as the face for their launch, making him card No. 1 of their inaugural set.

Boxes of cards were flying off the shelf, and rumors were Upper Deck kept printing these Griffeys... with experts estimating at least 1 million in circulation. Leading up to his HOF induction, 120,000 cards had been sent in to grading services. The circled No. 1 resembles the numbering on the back of this card... a true #1 record setting hit from the Junk Wax era.

This premium album on a transparent clear vinyl is designed to compliment my diamond wall piece.

About Junk Wax Records

In 1980, Fleer won a 5-year long monopolization lawsuit vs Topps, opening up the baseball card market for competition. Throughout the decade, production increased and boxes of wax packs filled the shelves of new hobby shops across America.

Before a record album is pressed onto vinyl, it first gets mastered, or cut, on wax. Junk Wax Records is a mashup of iconic cards from this era and recycled 12-inch LPs. My Junk Wax logo is inspired by the Fleer crown, as their court battle flipped this industry upside down.
