Handmade labels on recycled vinyl
I bet nobody ever imagined Marty Schottenheimer would get name-dropped on a Grammy-winning album!
Hip-hop was forever changed by a "crazy white geek" when Eminem arrived. The Slim Shady LP ranks #33 on Rolling Stone's list of Top Albums from the 90's. I was inspired by Eminem's furious style to make this piece on long-time NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer. Lyrics from the song, Just Don't Give a F***.
Slim Shady, brain dead like Jim Brady
I'm an M-80, you little like that Kim lady
I'm buzzin', Dirty Dozen, naughty rotten rhymer
Cursin' at you playas worse than Marty Schottenheimer
The A and B-sides of the album are decorated with Marty's 1989 & 1990 Pro Set cards... great relics of the Junk Wax era. Pro Set was founded in 1988, and went out of business just 4 years later in 1992. The actual record used is a completely random album. What songs are on it? Spin it and find out!
About Junk Wax Records
In 1980, Fleer won a 5-year long monopolization lawsuit vs Topps, opening up the baseball card market for competition. Throughout the decade, production increased and boxes of wax packs filled the shelves of new hobby shops across America.
Before a record album is pressed onto vinyl, it first gets mastered, or cut, on wax. Junk Wax Records is a mashup of iconic cards from this era and recycled 12-inch LPs. My Junk Wax logo is inspired by the Fleer crown, as their court battle flipped this industry upside down.
