1985 Topps Production Line
Hand-painted collectible baseball card
The 1985 Topps set led into the big baseball card boom of the late 80's and early 90's. Topps began ramping up production to hold off competition from Fleer and Donruss. The set was loaded with a great rookie class: McGwire, Clemens, Carter, Davis, Puckett, Hershiser, Gooden etc., and featured some now iconic hobby images for many of the game's stars.
I've designed a repeating pattern based on the '85 layout to represent the production line of this set. Painted with a full slab of bubble gum texture.
About my collector cards
After purchasing some old wax packs to study the size and texture of gum sticks, I developed my own paint techniques in order to replicate it. Now, I hand-paint bubble gum directly onto vintage baseball cards to create small collectibles.
