'89 All-Stars Production Line
Hand-painted collectible baseball card
The 1989 Topps All-Star cards are among the more iconic design elements from the Junk Wax era. Print runs were beginning to dramatically increase in the mid-80's. Today, hobby and industry experts estimate that Topps printed 3,500,000+ sets in 1989.... compared to just 250,000-750,000 10 years earlier.
The repeated pattern, a common element in my artwork, is used to convey the massive overproduction of print runs in 1989. In contrast... I'm creating 1/1s. The yellow edition is made with vinyl.
About my collector cards
After purchasing some old wax packs to study the size and texture of gum sticks, I developed my own paint techniques in order to replicate it. Now, I hand-paint bubble gum directly onto vintage baseball cards to create small collectibles.
Here's what you'll receive with this order
