Hand-painted collectible baseball card
Alan Wiggins (1958-91) was best known as the speedy, switch-hitting leadoff man for the 1984 San Diego Padres. At age 26, Wiggins stole 70 bases and scored 106 runs, while hitting in front of Tony Gwynn (who won his first of 8 batting titles). The duo at the top of San Diego's lineup propelled them to the World Series.
However, that one magical season would be the ultimate high of Wiggins' career. He struggled with drug addiction, leading to multiple arrests and suspensions. Then, just 9 months after playing in a World Series, he was traded to Baltimore. Weeks before his 33rd birthday, Alan Wiggins died from AIDS. He was the first known major league baseball player to lose his life to the virus.
Keith Haring (1958-90) is one of the most iconic pop artists in history, rising to fame in New York City during early 1980's. His imagery became a visual language... much of it advocating for safe sex and AIDS awareness. Haring died from AIDS at age 31... 11 months before Wiggins passed.
Shortly before his death, Haring created a series of 5 icons: The Radiant Baby, Barking Dog, Three-Eyed Monster, Angel, and Flying Devil. Haring used religious motifs in his art to comment on the existence of heaven and hell. He illustrates purity and holiness radiating from the angel's body, while the devil has an X-shaped chest... a symbol of damnation.
My red signature label conveys the red ribbon... a universal symbol of awareness and support for people living with HIV.
About my collector cards
After purchasing some old wax packs to study the size and texture of gum sticks, I developed my own paint techniques in order to replicate it. Now, I hand-paint bubble gum directly onto vintage baseball cards to create small collectibles.
Here's what you'll receive with this order
- My original hand-painted gum onto a baseball card.
- Each collector card is paint-marked with it's edition number.
- These art cards are protected inside an Ultra Pro One Touch magnetic card holder... customized with my matching Rosen signature label.
- I do not sign these cards by request. However, your package will include bonus items personally autographed by me.
