Original baseball card art
Arguably the greatest Jewish major leaguer of all-time, Sandy Koufax famously skipped his start for Game 1 of the 1965 World Series, because it fell on the holy day of Yom Kippur.
Koufax took the mound for Game 2 and tossed shutouts in Games 5 & 7 (on only two days of rest in between) to help the Dodgers beat the Twins in 7 games. Sandy was named the World Series MVP for his heroic performance... the 2nd time in his career (1963) he received such honors.
Bazooka gum was first distributed shortly after World War II in the U.S. by the Topps Company in Brooklyn, New York. It was then placed inside wax packages of baseball cards throughout the decades to cross promote products. After 1991, Topps ended this practice... as collectors no longer wanted cards stained by sticks of bubble gum.
The gum was also manufactured and packaged in Israel, and I often received the Hebrew version as a kid growing up in the states. Made with reprints of 1965 Topps.
