Celebrating some of the greatest heavyweight champions from the 19th & 20th centuries. This custom set of artwork is highlighted by an 8x8" artist panel, painted with an abstract rendition of James Montgomery Flagg's artwork that occupied Jack Dempsey's Broadway bar and restaurant. 

Flagg, well known for his WWI “We Want You” Uncle Sam poster, was commissioned to commemorate the Dempsey-Willard Fight from July 4, 1919. The fighter and painter were good friends.

This Dempsey square panel references the shape of the ring. It is covered with a protective layer of clear epoxy resin, and complimented by a companion set of 10 heavyweight painted cards. Each portrait is labeled on the back for clarity, and signed in a matching gold ink. An additional uncut framed sheet is also available.

These artworks feature white & red paints on black... paying homage to some traditional shorts, ring, and glove colors... as well as the blood drawn during bouts. A final layer of speckled gold is used to honor the champion's hardware & belts.

Two of my personal favorite artists are Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock. This style of work I've developed has combined elements of both... action paint and a screen print effect that I accomplish by transferring ink.

My brush stroke series is inspired by Andy Warhol's screen print process, in which he combined hand-painted backgrounds with photographic silkscreens.
