Ink on vintage Diamond King puzzle pieces

My favorite card from the 1987 Donruss set... and perhaps my #1 favorite card of all-time... is the Greg Maddux Rated Rookie. There's so much to love about this card. The iconic border, the RR logo, the vintage blue v-neck with the '84 Cub patch... and of course, the porn stache!

Roberto Clemente was the subject of the 1987  Diamond King puzzle, and I've used vintage pieces to illustrate this card.

Piecing together Donruss history.

In 1980, Topps lost a monopolization lawsuit vs Fleer... which opened the door for new competition. After Fleer and Donruss released their inaugural sets (packaged with gum) in 1981, Topps countered with a claim for exclusive rights to package baseball cards with bubble gum. So, Fleer made stickers... and Donruss made puzzles.
